Types of problems I can help with:

  • Depression is not just feeling sad. Depression sucks all of the joy, motivation, pleasure, and meaning is out of your life. We can work together to get you moving towards a life full of meaning and joy.

  • The most common anxiety disorders I see are Social Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety, and Panic Disorder. I also work with Specific Phobias (extreme fears) like fear of vomiting, fear of getting an illness or disease, or fear of small, confined spaces. In our work together, I will help you break the hold of these anxieties on your life to live the way you want.

  • You may have unwanted, repetitive thoughts that won’t stop (an obsession). These thoughts are so persistent that they may make it hard for you to go about your daily life, because you keep having to ‘fix’ them with the same actions that never end up making anything better (compulsions).

The repetitive thoughts are often about something that could be true about yourself that would have terrible effects on you or others. This rarely looks like the popular notion of OCD as a tidying up spaces and ordering things just so.

I have years of supervised practice in working with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP - the best kind of therapy available for OCD) and will help you find a way to live a life where OCD does not keep taking more of your life away from you.

  • Sometimes things happen that just won’t stay in the past and intrude on your daily life in a way you just want to stop. The thing that happened can be an attack, a sexual assault, being on duty while terrible things happen around you, or something else. Unfortunately, there are innumerable traumas a person may experience. We can work together to keep the past in the past so that you can live in the present, informed by what happened but not having to relive it over and over again.

  • Losing people and/or things that are important to you can be painful. Everyone responds differently to loss.

Some people need a professional to help them make peace with what is gone and figure out how to live again after their loss. I can help you find closure without erasing the memory of what you once had and help you find meaning and value in your life after loss.

  • If you think your drinking, drug use, or another behaviour (such as gambling or shopping) is taking over your life, I can help you. I can help you cut down or stop altogether.

  • If you are hurting yourself physically to make emotional pain go away, I can help you. I will help you learn how to live with difficult or painful emotions without harming yourself.

  • You may have a job or a caregiving responsibility that is exhausting you mentally, emotionally, and physically. I can work with you to help you separate yourself from your responsibility and more consciously shape what that role looks like for you.

  • Not all people who come to therapy have a clinical diagnosis such as depression or anxiety. If your life just doesn’t feel quite right, I can help name what you want in life and figure out plans of how to increase the chances you will get it.

  • You may have gone through therapy before and are doing well, but want to make sure you don’t fall back into old habits. I can help you stay accountable to yourself by setting up some check-in appointments to celebrate your successes and help you manage challenges as they arise.
